FAQ

New York OSHA 10-Hour Construction Questions, Answered

Does OSHA 10 alone let me work on NYC sites?
No. Under NYC Local Law 196, workers on covered sites need a 40-hour SST Worker Card. An actively-proctored OSHA 10 counts as 10 of those 40 hours and earns you a Temporary SST Card so you can start work while you finish the remaining 30 SST hours.
Is this course actively proctored for NYC?
Yes. To be accepted by the NYC Department of Buildings, online OSHA 10 must be actively proctored. Our course verifies your identity and monitors participation throughout, so it qualifies under Local Law 196.
How do I get my full SST Worker Card?
Complete 40 hours of SST. With OSHA 10 you need 30 more hours (Fall Prevention, Chapter 33, Scaffold User, electives, and Drug/Alcohol Awareness). With OSHA 30 you only need 10 more (8h Fall Prevention + 2h Drug/Alcohol).
Do the cards expire?
The federal OSHA 10 (DOL) card does not expire. The Temporary SST Card is valid 6 months (non-renewable), and the DOB-issued SST Worker Card is valid 5 years.
When do I get my certificate and DOL card?
You can download your certificate of completion instantly after passing the final exam. Your official plastic U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) wallet card is mailed to you, typically within about two weeks.
What if I fail a quiz or the final exam?
Quiz and final exam retakes are unlimited and free. You need 70% to pass, and you'll never pay extra to retake.
